When “Sea Stories” Aren’t…

May 18, 2015

It took ten years to learn more about that night twenty years ago.

The “milk sea” in a composite satellite image, and the region of the ocean where it was spotted. Credit: Steven Miller, NRL

I am referring to the natural world phenomenon of bioluminescence.

Quoting Robert Roy Britt from his October 4, 2005, article titled, ‘Mystery Ocean Glow Confirmed in Satellite Photos‘:

[Excerpt] “The newly released images show a vast region of the Indian Ocean, about the size of Connecticut, glowing three nights in a row. The luminescence was also spotted from a ship in the area. … The event occurred in 1995 and was finally analyzed and reported last week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.”

The “ship in the area” mentioned in the ‘Live Science’ article above was reportedly a merchant vessel, but I know that other ships, including those of the U.S. Navy, also witnessed the phenomenon… because I was on one, a Spru-Can, call sign ‘Forerunner’. I was on other tin cans before and after, but what happened this night became the talk of this ship. It was a night no Sailor could forget…

I was on watch in CIC when our lookouts first reported it. I called Radar One for a spot relief then went up to a crammed bridge to see the phenomenon for myself. It was truly amazing… Everyone was awe-struck… There was a giddy buzz from the crew, and yet a sobering hush as well. A bunch of us immediately headed to the weather decks and the fantail to get a closer look. The sea literally had a pulsing-type glow for miles as we moved through it, almost like being on a massively-strobed airport runway. I can still see it in my mind’s eye. It was one of the most spectacular things in the natural world I’ve ever witnessed…

An all-embracing post for (1) people who cannot stop playing the race card and (2) people who are oh so tired of it being played…

May 18, 2015

This post serves two audiences: the ignorant who grievously play the race card, and the informed who are tired of it being played. The hope here is what follows helps the former join with the latter.

The overwhelming number of Americans opposed to Barack Obama are against him because of who he is: perhaps, first and foremost, a pathological liar; a malignant narcissist; a community agitator; the cowardly bowing American who apologizes on the world stage; the most profligate taxing-and-spending politico running both the biggest bloated bureaucracy and most debt-ridden government evah. (Take your pick — each description seems to fit.)

What they see has absolutely nothing to do with skin color and EVERYTHING to do with the content of Barack Obama’s character (or lack thereof). As Kevin Jackson says, “It’s what you know… now DEAL with it.”

To that point, here is some information on who the real racists in this country were and are. And how, to this day, they STILL try to hide their disturbing past from normal examination. (It’s also a sad fact that many among them are the first to play the race card.)

Democrats: The Missing Years; “The party that championed slavery and segregation erases its race record from history.” — [Excerpt] There is no reference to the formation of the Ku Klux Klan, which, according to Columbia University historian Eric Foner became “a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.” Nor is there reference to University of North Carolina historian Allen Trelease’s description of the Klan as the “terrorist arm of the Democratic Party.” [End quote] &

The DNC’s Bold Lies — [Excerpt] “The lies are big, bold and prominent. … There is no polite way to put it. This DNC website presentation is a lie. A deliberate, willful and very big lie. Hiding from the young, the innocent and the unwary the cold, hard and true facts of the Democratic Party’s horrific racial history. … This cultural rot has been the backbone of American liberalism and its political party the Democrats — for 212 years. No wonder the DNC feels it has to lie.” &

Special note: In 2013, news surfaced that Barack Obama not only followed the despicably-named Twitter account ‘IHateNi**ers’, he was its FIRST FOLLOWER.

This was documented (complete with screen grabs) in an article titled, ‘Amazingly Enough, the Official Obama Twitter Account Actually Followed This Absurd Racist’. Obviously, “following” a Twitter account doesn’t necessarily imply endorsement of it or the content of its tweets, though in this case, we still don’t know why the “official” Obama Twitter account DID follow it (till it was news — read into that what you will.) The account’s first tweet was sent January 7, 2009 — 13 days prior to Obama’s first inauguration.

More importantly, being this Twitter account’s FIRST FOLLOWER poses questions all its own. (For the record, ‘OFA’ was originally ‘Obama For America’. After his reelection, ‘OFA’ morphed into ‘Organizing For Action’.)

More disturbing would be the chance that Barack Obama or his advisors had his Transition Team create the Twitter account to keep their hate alive. Lest we forget what Booker T. Washington said over a hundred years ago in the language of his day:

“There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don’t want the patient to get well.”

That sounds like an indictment of the entire Obama administration and all of the race-hustling, race-obsessed “hate merchants” and charlatans that Barack Obama himself, for years now, has been regularly keeping counsel with, be they whatever color…

A personal observation to wrap things up:

The REAL injustice our country suffered the last six years may be how the election of the first African-American president — something we embraced and celebrated for its history alone — how it actually hurt race relations and unity because the individual elected never had such a goal. By his words and deeds, Obama himself precluded that from happening!

The current president is no healer nor unifier, and all the photos of him wearing a halo or surrounded by children and all the Scripture in the world cited by minions won’t change that fact. Alas, too many on the left are still invested in him (or his skin color) to see the truth. Or they are too ashamed to admit he seduced them. That’s how Liberty dies…

In closing, we all belong to one race, the *human* race. And we all bleed one color. Red.

Perhaps if Barack Obama took Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s advice and stopped his “drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred,” many American citizens of ALL colors wouldn’t be so dismayed… and it would be much easier for us to rule out the idea that this divisive president seemingly wants that color to run in the streets.

● Kevin Jennings is the militant homofascist activist that Obama tapped as his “Safe Schools” Czar. Despite public outrage, Obama kept him in the administration working for two years.

[Quoting] Mr. Jennings wrote the foreword to a 1998 book titled, “Queering Elementary Education.” The book he endorsed was a collection of essays by different authors who supported teaching young children about homosexuality. [End quote]

● An excerpt from ‘Ascension of Evil: Obama’s Fist F**king “Safe School Czar” Kevin Jennings’:

[Quoting] Obama has appointed Kevin Jennings, founder of GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) — which sponsored the conference that produced the notorious “Fistgate” scandal (in which young teens were guided on how to perform dangerous homosexual perversions including “fisting”) — to head up “Safe Schools” efforts at the Department of Education. Jennings is a vicious, anti-religious bigot who once said “[F–k] ’em” to the “Religious Right.” He supports promoting homosexuality and gender confusion as normative to even young students. He made that comment in a New York City church. [End quote]

● Kevin Jennings had a very disturbing past before that. Here’s an excerpt from his ‘Discover the Networks’ profile:

[Quoting] In 1988 a Concord Academy sophomore confided to Jennings that he and an adult male were having a homosexual relationship that had begun in a bus-stop bathroom. Jennings failed to report the boy’s situation (which technically amounted to statutory rape) to authorities. Instead he actively encouraged the relationship, counseling the youngster to use a condom in his sexual encounters. [End quote]

● Knowledge of the this didn’t stop Obama’s Education Secretary Arne Duncan from expressing support: Jennings is “uniquely qualified” for his job.

● Bill Ayers, the domestic terrorist whose living room Barack Obama held his political “coming out” party in, endorsed Kevin Jennings’ 1998 book.
‘Bill Ayers’ gay agenda for your kids’

● Graham Spanier is a former Penn State president and the architect of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal cover-up, What happened after he was forced to step down? The Obama administration hired him! Washington Post’s Emily Heil wrote about it in the article, ‘Graham Spanier’s gig as a federal worker is a mystery’:

[Quoting] Spanier might have been ousted from his post at the helm of Penn State over the sex-abuse scandal that engulfed the university, but it seems he’s found a backup employer: the American taxpayer. … His lawyer confirms to the Loop that Spanier is working on a part-time consulting basis for a “top-secret” agency on national security issues. But the gig is so hush-hush, he couldn’t even tell his attorneys the name of the agency. In April — months after his ouster as president but before the release of the internal report — he told the Patriot-News of central Pennsylvania that he was working on a “special project for the U.S. government relating [to] national security.” [End quote]

Graham Spanier faces charges of perjury, obstruction, endangering the welfare of children, failure to report child abuse, conspiracy to hide child abuse, hiding evidence from investigators, and lying to the grand jury. In other words, this “expert at cover-ups” fit in perfectly with the Obama administration.

● Down Low Club’s The Reverend Jeremiah Wright was Obama’s spiritual mentor for 20+ years. Wright married the Obamas and is credited for the title of Obama’s book, The Audacity of Hope.
‘ABC News 2008: Obama’s Pastor: God Damn America’

● Democrat Bobby Titcomb is Obama’s best golfing “buddy” and an original Punahou School chum/choom gang-banger once busted for soliciting a male prostitute. Titcomb has bragged of being Obama’s White House drug supplier and is a “constant pal” during frequent vacation trips to Hawaii.

● Jerome Corsi’s series into the past this president tried to hide…
PART I — Trinity Church members reveal Obama shocker! ‘Matchmaker’ Rev. Jeremiah Wright ‘provided cover for gays’
PART II — Jesse Jackson, Wright ‘arranged’ Obama marriage; Chicago sources claim president was part of dark subculture
PART III — Obama didn’t join Wright’s church to follow Jesus; Members: ‘It was a political decision, not a religious one’

In closing, the fact that Barack Obama was comfortable with having the words “f*sting” and “teaba**ing” introduced into the national lexicon indicates his moral compass points to Hell.

Tom Hanks has made a lot of blockbusters… $8.5 billion worth. He is his industry’s highest-grossing actor. He has had some great roles. Too bad he is not some of the characters he played so well.

We get a glimpse of who Hanks really is when he comes out from behind his mask and says asinine things. That can make his movies trying, which is nothing to him but still the case for some. It can be difficult to watch someone who readily says “he cares” about Veterans knowing he worships a president who clearly doesn’t.

Before we continue on that topic, let’s mention something that is related. In a 2013 TV interview in the UK, Hanks talked about ‘Captain Phillips’ and the Merchant Vessel (MV) Maersk Alabama, the U.S.-flagged container ship that was hijacked in 2009 by pirates armed with AK-47s off the coast of Somalia, the subject of which inspired a less-than-accurate film of the same name.

We don’t often see highly skilled and licensed professionals who take an Oath, who are charged with unique and critical roles in a time of war, get thrown under the bus, but that is what happened.

At the 2:39 mark in the interview, Tom Hanks stated rather matter-of-factly: “We would all probably have an idea that a ship like this is made up with a bunch of ragtag losers that are shiftless and running away from life itself…” <-Huh?

Hanks wasn’t done. Here’s another quote (from the same interview) that is, at the least, equally cringeworthy: At 4:59, Tom Hanks is asked his opinion of Obama. “I think he’s a fantastic leader and I think he’s leading fantastically.”<-click

Then there is this, from 2012, by Don Anastas: ‘Tom Hanks Big Lie’ — a brief article detailing some of the lies Tom Hanks told in the Obama campaign film he narrated.

And if it couldn’t get any worse, Hanks, who already fundraised hard for Obama in ’08 and ’12, and made videos and appearances endorsing him, wanted a third term for the reelected Obama.

Tom Hanks is both a celebrity and a Hollywood heavyweight. He has affected American culture. Which is why, in times like this, when are country is seemingly being ripped apart, it only makes sense for us to remember the senseless, i.e., who said what and why. I’m not trying to tear down an icon. I’m just trying to set the record straight. Hanks not only disrespects merchant mariners, he’s CLUELESS. A copy of the U.S. Constitution on his night stand, with him reading it, wouldn’t hurt.

To end this on an upbeat note, Tom Hanks said something once that I didn’t actually hear till years later (being underway on something big and gray can do that). I thought I would share it…

At the 1992 Academy Awards ceremony, visual effects creator and pioneer Ray Harryhausen (1920-2013) received a special Oscar, with his lifetime friend Ray Bradbury (1920-2012) there to see it.

After thunderous applause and an ovation for Harryhausen, presenter Hanks turned to the audience and said, “Some say Citizen Kane is the greatest motion picture of all time. Others say it’s Casablanca. For me, the greatest picture of all time is Jason and the Argonauts.”

Twenty-two years ago yesterday, we decommissioned that ship I was on then. It was the last Adams Class guided missile destroyer in the fleet. I served on other tin cans, but that ship was my first and she was a beauty. The wonderful thing is, in Gun Plot, we watched Jason and the Argonauts on our final trip back to Pearl 🙂

Obama’s disturbing record on “blue lives”…

“Gangs” in Baltimore continue to work together and target law enforcement professionals. This is a credible threat with national repercussions. What follows may raise eyebrows, but when President Obama publicly condemns this news, why should we believe him? His record for showing concern or having any empathy for “blue lives” is, at the least, disturbing. Here are some examples (references and sources are included in the comment section of the link posted below):

In 2007, Obama marched and shared a podium in Selma (yes, that Selma) with the racist militant New Black Panther Party (NBPP). Controversy over their 2008 endorsement of him for president would later have him scrubbing it from his campaign website (a sign of the “transparency” to come?) but make no mistake: Obama was and still is “tight” with the NBPP.

How “tight”? Look at the White House Visitor Logs. Or…

Robert Breitbard was San Diego’s sports MVP

SAN DIEGO — What was just a bunch of “junk in the garage” according to Bob Breitbard’s wife, Lillie, turned into the vast collection of San Diego sports memorabilia, which is housed today in the sixty thousand square foot Hall of Champions Museum in Balboa Park. Bob Breitbard loved collecting sports memorabilia, especially items from great champions who came from San Diego.

In 1946, while president of the California Linen Supply, Bob decided to follow his passion of sports by starting the Breitbard Athletic Foundation, which honors local high school athletes. Breitbard himself was a star football player at Hoover High School and later became their coach. The combination of Breitbard’s collection, the Athletic Foundation, and later the Breitbard Hall of Fame (honoring professional athletes from San Diego), created the San Diego Hall of Champions, the largest sports museum honoring a single…

Why The Museum Is So Important

Every week we lose.

All of us lose.

Every week it seems like we lose a piece of baseball history – of American history.

We lose their stories, their fondest memories of baseball, friendships, all during a terrible time in the story of America.

With increasing frequency we are losing the players that for the most part helped build the big leagues without playing in the big leagues.

There were those like Banks, Minoso and Paige who did see their dreams come true and their stories are better told than others because of it. But for the vast majority of Negro Leagues players – their stories are told and housed in Kansas City.

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum was created for the very purpose of preserving those stories and memories along with telling the story of some of the greatest players in baseball history.

As the number of surviving Negro…

What’s Missing From Baseball

May 1, 2015

Monarchs to Grays to Crawfords

People are always trying to fix things. Nothing it seems is good enough anymore.

The same can be said for baseball -it’s too slow, not exciting enough, doesn’t appeal to young people.

The simple fact is that baseball is about people, history and the numbers.

The other simple fact is that the only thing baseball is missing are fathers and that directly contributes to the dwindling numbers of African-American players in Major League Baseball.

It’s not a problem solely belonging to baseball. It’s a societal problem.

That change has to begin at home.

I have had this conversation with numerous current and former Major League players like Royals great Frank White and Twins outfielder Torii Hunter. No matter who you talk to from whichever era you would like to choose – the common denominator among all of them is that their fathers handed down their love of the game.
